United Methodist Men

umm_logoUnited Methodist Men is a creative, supportive fellowship of men who seek to know Jesus Christ, to grow spiritually, and to seek daily his will.

Vision -  The ministry of men in the local church is defined as a core group of men, partnering with their pastor, to invite and initiate spiritual growth opportunities for all men of the church. Everyone has different gifts, graces and areas of interest. Therefore, opportunities for participation would include diverse ministries of the church, such as prayer groups, missions, Bible studies, retreats, workshops/seminars, small groups in the Wesleyan tradition, leading and participating on committees, teaching Sunday school classes, youth ministries, scouting, mentoring and assisting in leading worship service. The focus is not inward, concentrating only on those who attend a set meeting, but outward to all men, assisting them to engage the process of spiritual growtha

Mission - Our mission is to support spiritual growth among men, helping men to mature as disciples as they encourage spiritual formation in others.

Goal - to empower the ministry of Jesus Christ through men within the congregations of the United Methodist Church.

Purpose - to help men grow in Christ, so others can know Christ.

Pathway - Our pathway is a lifelong commitment to spiritual growth to maturity as Christ followers. Our spiritual formation is marked by spiritual reproduction, as our faith passes on in others.

The UMM meets the first Saturday of the month at 8:00 a.m. for breakfast and discussion.

Mission at Calvary UMC - The UMM hosts an annual spaghetti dinner to support missional efforts in the church and in the community.  The UMM participates in a gleaning project, supports local food pantries, aids outreach efforts by Mariela in the Hispanic community, funds youth mission trips, and serves a free community meal T2S2 (Third Thursday Supper & Speaker).

Gleaning - end of June - October, Monday and Friday evenings.  Members from CUMC pick up fresh vegetables from farmstands in Westmont and Carol Stream and distribute them to local food pantries in Villa Park, Lombard, Addison, and Wheaton.

Potato Drop - Annually.  Tons of potatoes are procured and distributed to the needy in our community.

Spaghetti Dinner -  (second Friday of November).  All the spaghetti you can eat along with salad, garlic bread, and dessert.  Approximately 200 people are served.  Advertising is sought from local businesses.  Funds raised from this event support the efforts and mission of Calvary United Methodist Men.
